ABU DHABI, — The National Media Council, NMC, has set up an interactive pavilion at the 27th Abu Dhabi International Book Fair, which will be held at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre from 26th April to 2nd May 2017.
Organised under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, the exhibition offers the Council an opportunity to shed light on its role in spreading knowledge, encouraging the public to read, and ultimately creating knowledgeable generations. The Council will also be displaying its future projects, carried out in cooperation with UAE publishing houses, as well as its strategic plans to enhance the media sector and allow it to play an effective role in the nationwide renaissance.
Mansour Al Mansouri, Director-General of the NMC, said, “The Abu Dhabi International Book Fair is a cultural event and an ideal platform to highlight the National Media Council’s role in disseminating knowledge and supporting the National Reading Law issued by President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, as well as the National Reading Strategy and other initiatives that seek to spread knowledge and culture in the community and promote reading. The NMC pavilion will host interactive activities and events that showcase our contributions to such initiatives, which seek to educate a generation of intellectuals and scholars.”
The National Media Council is set to organise workshops for “People with Determination”, particularly those with visual and hearing impairments, on the sidelines of the Abu Dhabi International Book Fair. These include “A Story and a Sign”, a workshop for individuals with hearing disabilities, and a workshop to showcase innovations that assist the hearing impaired. NMC will also showcase its initiatives to promote reading and writing at the book fair.
The Council’s agenda also includes the “Mobile Charity Cart”, an awareness-raising activity in which the audience answers questions and awards are presented, and the “Charity Library”, where visitors to the pavilion will be able to exchange used books for vouchers and discounts from participating publishers.
