Abu Dhabi International Book Fair

Duration: 8 days
Venue: Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre
Brief: ADIBF is the marketplace for the publishing industry in the Middle East and North Africa. Over the years, exhibitors have benefitted from venues such as the eZone, which showcases the latest in electronic media and digital content. The Illustrators’ Corner has offered a platform for local and international talent to display their work and learn from market specialists.

The Spotlight on Rights subsidy continues to gain momentum and received 287 letters of intent this year. Our greatly enhanced professional programmes allow more exhibitors to network with new business partners in this part of the world while exploring business-to-business opportunities.

New and intellectual cultural programmes attracted an overwhelming number of visitors from the UAE, giving international exhibitors an indication of the potential of this market and the opportunities waiting to be tapped.

Sharjah International Book Fair

Duration: 11 days
Venue: Sharjah Expo Centre
Brief: The Sharjah International book fair has been running for 35 years. It is the 3rd biggest trade book fair in the world with foot traffic of over a million in 2016. 2016’s fair hosted 1,460 exhibitors from 60 countries. It is home to the most exciting literary event in the region. The main aim of SIBF is to encourage reading among people, especially the younger generation, by making quality books accessible to them at affordable prices. In 2013 the prestigious publication “The Bookseller” named SIBF as one of the top four books fairs globally.
Visitors enjoy a wide range of activities during the fair with many events geared specifically to children. This ranges from writing workshops to poetry readings, book signings, international and local author sessions, as well as plays, arts and crafts activities. SIBF even hosts a Cookery Corner, where renowned chefs demonstrate their very own recipes and present tasty dishes.

Arab Publisher’s Association Conference

The third edition of the Arab Publishers Conference was held in Sharjah for the first time under the theme ‘The Publishing Industry: Prospects and Challenges of the Digital Age’.

The 2-day event explored a range of contemporary topics and issues currently at play in the publishing world, with a specific focus on how they affect the Arabic publishing community.

It took place on 2 – 3 November 2015 – immediately preceding the Professional Program of the Sharjah International Book Fair – the conference offers Arabic publishers an unprecedented opportunity to meet and network not only with publishers from the Arabic region, but also with publishers from around the world.


Sharjah Children Reading Festival

Duration: 11 days
Venue: Sharjah Expo Centre
Brief: The Sharjah Children’s Reading Festival (SCRF) encourages discovery, creativity and is filled with excitement. Some of the world’s best children’s authors attend the festival and read their popular works and meet their fans; alongside more than 120 international and local publishers who offer their books for sale.

The aim of SCRF is to promote a love of reading amongst young and old, showcase Arab literature to the world and give illustrators and artists alike the chance to feature their intricate works. SCRF also provides a great place for fellow authors and publishing houses/publishers to network and interact. A whole host of special awards ceremonies are held during the Festival, including the Sharjah Children’s Books Awards and the Sharjah Award for Specially-Abled Children’s Books, as well as prize giving held during the Sharjah Exhibition for Children’s Books Illustrations.
Not only do keen young readers have the chance to meet their favourite authors, but they also have the opportunity to take part in an entertainment extravaganza. From face painting to sand art, art workshops and story-telling, to special competitions and puppet shows.

Emirates Literature Festival

Duration: 9 days
Venue: InterContinental Hotel, Dubai Festival City
Brief: The Emirates Airline Festival of Literature is the Middle East’s largest celebration of the written and spoken word, bringing people of all ages and backgrounds together with authors from across the world to promote education, debate and above all else, love of reading and writing.

The Festival creates a wonderful opportunity for UAE nationals, residents and visitors to meet world famous authors, attend literary debates, listen to readings, participate in workshops and experience the exciting fringe and children’s events.  Writing competitions and an inter-school quiz are amongst the educational highlights, and young people also have the chance to hear and meet some of their favourite writers. With simultaneous translation between Arabic and English for select sessions, the Festival is a meeting of minds where ideas are shared and friendships are formed – not least among the authors themselves.
